The ideas of Adolph Kolping (1813-1865) are based on the fundament (substratum) of Christian social ethics: encouragement of the whole human through education and personal development.
Help for self-help, bringing out social change by changing people, this is how his approach was later described. The idea of self-help and community help quickly spread through Europe and beyond. Modern and contemporary his idea is to accompany young people during their apprenticeship today.
In the Kolping youth residence teenagers find an associate, who supports if their apprenticeship is far from home.
To realize that idea is assignment of the Kolpingwerk. Fundamental for that mission are over 2600 Kolpingfamilies in Germany with more than 270000 members. The Kolpingwerk can be found in over 60 countries worldwide. About 500000 people are employed by the international Kolpingwerk.
